Contemporary Kitchen Extension
April 2026 - Ditchling, East Sussex
Our clients wanted to create a contemporary kitchen for their new extension that felt calm, social and effortlessly functional for busy family living. A key part of the brief was incorporating a large formal dining table alongside a more relaxed everyday seating area where family and friends could naturally gather.
Tim designed a bespoke banquette seating area connected to the island to achieve this, creating an inviting breakfast and social space at the opposite end of the room to the formal dining area. The curved upholstered seating softens the architectural lines of the space whilst introducing warmth, comfort and a strong sense of connection within the open-plan layout.
Functionality was equally important within the design. Our clients wanted to keep worktop appliances hidden away whilst still ensuring they remained practical and easily accessible for everyday use. To achieve this, we designed tall push-to-open pocket door cabinetry with bespoke internal storage tailored personally to the family’s lifestyle. Once opened, the slide-away doors reveal a fully functional appliance station complete with dedicated shelving, integrated lighting and carefully considered storage solutions, allowing the space to remain beautifully streamlined when closed.
Rich timber detailing, bronze accents and textured stone surfaces were layered throughout the design to add warmth and depth against the contemporary cabinetry palette, creating a sophisticated yet welcoming family environment.
Alongside the main kitchen, a separate utility and boot room space was designed to provide additional practicality and organisation for day-to-day family life. Integrated seating, concealed storage and durable finishes help create dedicated zones for laundry, coats, shoes and everyday essentials, ensuring the main kitchen space remains calm, clutter-free and connected to modern family living.
